Black Liberation Essay
Umoja English 4
Fall 2017
deWit
You will be writing a 7-9 page paper on black liberation. You are encouraged to forge your own theory of liberation, while weaving in the authors and scholars we have heard and read. Be clear with a thesis in your intro and have coherent, focused paragraphs laced with evidence from our texts. You should choose at least one of the questions that your classmates, including yourself, came up with in class to help guide your essay. You will be graded on the following:
- Strong thesis that captures your entire argument
- Close reading of our authors and scholars, by including evidence and analyzing their arguments as you put your own philosophy forth
- At least one counterargument/concession to your point of view that you analyze closely
- Quality of writing--complex, compound sentences and clear reasoning
- Technically sound writing--free of errors and clear expression
You must draw from the three gentlemen--Baldwin, X, and Gates, as well as the conversation with the five women, and, if you desire, the X and King research paper.
